The shadowy warriors of Shakuras, the Dark Templar, have been an enormous aid in helping defeating the Overmind on Aiur. Their role did not stop there however as they became a great force of the Protoss army thereon. Dark Templar are the obscure equivalent of the Aiur Templar, but instead of wielding great psionic powers, they tap into the energies of the Void, and can do feats like bending light around their bodies through an effort of will. Dark Templar are permanently invisible and wield a deadly scythe of psionic energy much like the Zealot’s, but modified to best suit their endeavours. Their legendary tactics of guile and infiltration strike fear into the hearts of their enemies.

Two High Templar can join their mind and bodies to fuse into a mighty Twilight Archon. Having to live amongst the Dark Templar, they have shared with these the knowledge of this sacred rite, and now two Templar, despite their origins, will merge into a Twilight Archon.
