Serving as the primary reinforcement portal the Gateway is responsible for the Warping In of the basic Protoss troops, and later on allows stronger and more versatile ones to be called on the field of battle, making it a key structure throughout any enduring wars. Like most Protoss structures, the Gateway needs to be in a Psionic Matrix to function.

To make their role as reinforcement portal even stronger, Gateways can be transformed into Warp Gates, which can Warp In units into Pylon power, but with a necessary cool-down.
