Like its name states, the Supply Depot is vital for the survival of any Terran settlement. It provides supply of every sort: food, ammunition, medical equipments, and so on. Without it, the Terrans cannot grow. Every Supply Depot adds to the limit of troops that can be trained and consequently is the element to widen armies and guarantee continued existence.
Abilities
Salvage
Since Brood War, the Terrans have suffered the heavy price of wasted raw materials as they lost settlement after settlement. Four years later, the SCV is now able to deconstruct and salvage used material from buildings, effectively recycling it for use in other endeavors. The building will be dismantled, but should the enemy destroy it before the task is complete, the player will collect nothing. Once Salvaging has begun, it cannot be halted.

Lower
Supply Depots have a second role to that of being storage rooms: they can be makeshift gates. The Terrans have built them with the ability to lower into the ground and enable passage should they have been blocking the way. This provides extremely advantageous defensive tactics for the Terrans as they can now raise 'walls' and remove them at will, easily controlling the flow of units in and out of their bases.
